Conversations

Whether we’re at a meeting, at church, or at school, we’ve noticed that all groups and every gathering “devolve” into smaller and smaller groups seeking meaningful conversation. Only rules rigorously enforced prevent what is natural: people seeking meaningful conversation.

Conversation Point works with this natural flow. The obvious benefits of meaningful conversation are many:

• Speaking and being heard
• Listening and uncovering answers
• Bonding and building relationships
• Gaining respect and trust
• Having fun

Less obvious benefits of meaningful conversation include:

• Improving quality of life
• Laying a foundation for personal change
• Taking responsibility
• Learning to ask for and receive help

Assumptions

Conversation Point is based on these assumptions:

• People are hungry for meaningful conversation. In today’s world, meaningful conversation doesn’t show up often enough to fulfill our need to connect, learn, and grow.
• Conversation is a basic building block of life and hence a powerful lever for change. Changing the conversation changes the way we see the world around us as well as the way we interact with each other.
• The quality of our lives is measured by the quality of our conversations. Meaningful conversation uplifts us and raises our energy.
• We speak passionately about work and interests. It’s fun to get passionate people cranked up and talking about what they love. Suddenly, they’re not just knowledgeable, they’re often quite eloquent.
•We learn best together through conversation.
•The need for just-in-time learning is poorly met. Libraries are too slow. The Internet is overloaded with information. Journals require research skills.
